Database Administration is part of the central information technology department and is responsible for supporting mission critical, world-wide, computer-based applications such as ERP and Business Data Warehouse, ADP Enterprise, Kronos, On-Base, and other corporate databases. The department also provides database administration support for implementation, upgrades and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server applications.
Summary Statement: Under the direction of Corporate IT Applications Manager, the Database Administrator will have primary responsibility for Microsoft SQL Server implementation and other RDBMS Servers. Major technical duties include installation and upgrade of Microsoft SQL Server products and application system software, monitoring and tuning system performance, establishing user access controls, database security, defining new/modified database tables, device configuration and planning, and support to IT staff worldwide. The DBA will also perform complex analysis, programming, and implementation of scripts and programs needed in support of applications for worldwide IT staff.
Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties:
40% Production Support:
Provide primary DBA support for establishing, upgrading, and maintaining the Microsoft SQL Server software environments, which support the IT systems.The existing Legacy and upcoming systems, as well as other vendor-supplied and locally developed systems. Implement backup and recovery procedures for all databases and test regularly in conjunction with other Operations. In conjunction with our security policy, establish and manage user access, and design and implement user environments.
20% Systems Maintenance:
Create, maintain and refresh required SQL Server instances/databases for development, test and production environments. As required, help resolve application problems. Act as liaison between application vendors and DBMS vendor to report and resolve problems. Monitor error log(s), database and log space, user activity and resource utilization of production environment. Monitor system resources of database Servers to assure production systems meet availability requirements and hardware enhancements are scheduled in a timely fashion. Provide after hours on-call support for critical database issues.
20% Development, Tuning & Diagnostics:
Provide expert assistance in setting up instances, tablespaces, tables, indices and views. In conjunction with IT Staff members, define new objects or modifications to existing objects. Provide expert assistance in SQL statement tuning to improve performance. This includes, but is not limited to, re-writing SQL statements, creating new indexes and altering existing indexes.
20% Planning & Implementation:
Install, upgrade and maintain MS SQL Server software products/versions for DBMS, server software and various tools software as appropriate for the project. Following standards, write, maintain and document scripts needed in support of applications. Stay current on MS database roadmap Monitor disk usage; plan acquisition and replacement of disk devices as needed. Act as project liaison and coordinate with system administrators for application of patches and maintenance required for database Servers.
20% Other tasks as needed:
Work with IT project team (or other project teams as required) to determine needs, set priorities, create project plans and determine schedule for installations/upgrades and other departmental tasks. Implement standards as defined by Vendors and other IT team as applicable to the Databases and other systems. Understand and maintain documentation of dependencies between applications and interfaces of our Databases, Operating System. Work independently to track outstanding tasks and projects, monitor progress, plan workload and dependencies, resolve resource conflicts and provide status reports to the IT Corporate IT Applications Manager. Work with auditors on database related inquiries Provide backup support for other department applications and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
BA or BS in Computer and Information Sciences or equivalent work experience
Expert knowledge of and substantial experience with both Microsoft SQL Server:
SQL Server and Oracle database administration on Servers for mission critical applications Installation and upgrades of multiple database software products/versions for DBMS, server software and various tools software Development, maintenance and documentation of procedures and standards for effective database software use Analysis and management of SQL Server problems/defects using vendor tools with Microsoft and installation of patches Use of software and locally developed tools to monitor all databases Definition of entity and referential integrity constraints, stored packages, procedures and functions, database links, triggers, snapshots and other internal database objects Management of role-based security
Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft:
Problem analysis involving interactions/dependencies between SQL Server and Windows Set up, testing and implementation of backup/recovery strategies using vendor recovery and backup tools, ie Recovery Manager (RMAN) Ability to install and manage multiple versions of SQL Server Plan, document, coordinate and implement complex vendor upgrades to database applications while protecting integrity of the production environment Document upgrade problems and communicate/resolve with application vendor Design and implementation of local table changes

Experience supporting 24x7 environments ERP DBA experience Experience with Visual Studio.NETEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
